First Look: 2015 Raleigh Tamland 1

First Look: 2015 Raleigh Tamland 1

What, exactly, is the Raleigh Tamland series all about? While some may simply label it as a "gravel/endurance" model, we think of it as much, much more. We like it because it's made with Reynolds 631 frame with a steel fork, outfitted with 11-speed Shimano 105 components, TRP Spyre disc brakes, and is based around 700x40 tire size with room to spare. The Tamland isn't simply a cyclocross bike with bigger tires, but has geometry that's tuned for riding on roads in all conditions. You can expect...

First Look: 2015 Raleigh Roper

First Look: 2015 Raleigh Roper

Raleigh's Roper cyclocross bike is here for 2015, with a twist.  For 2015 Raleigh ditched drop bars in favor for a 31.8 riser bar with a Shimano Alivio 1x9 drivetrain.  The Roper's frameset has the same tested design: disc brakes, rack and fender eyelets, responsive geometry, and now it's made with Reynolds 525 tubing.  It's fine-tuned as an ideal setup for an all weather, 12-month urban commuter. The 2015 Roper  comes in at a new price of just $950. Stop by anytime for a test ride with...

2014 Bianchi Volpe and Lupo

2014 Bianchi Volpe and Lupo

2014 Bianchi Volpes are in! We're excited to have the Volpe in stock in basically every size, and also to announce the new Lupo. If you want to try a variety of riding, you're best off with a Volpe. We love the Volpe because it works as a fantastic commuter, light touring bike, mixed-terrain road bike, winter trainer, and could even be used for cyclocross. The Volpe is made with a steel frame (Bianchi's own chromoly tubing) and  features generous tire clearance (room for a 700 x 37 tire and...

2014 Raleigh Roper

2014 Raleigh Roper

4130 chromoly tubing, Shimano 105 components, and Hayes mechanical disc brakes all make the Roper an awesome choice for all-around use. The Roper stands apart from the crowd as being not just capable, but excelling at a lot of types of riding. We recommend it as a 12-month, rain-or-shine commuter bike, but the Roper is at home in the woods, bike bath, or in your first cyclocross bike. It's a fast, fun bike with a smart selection of components, making this a great value bike at just $1500. If...

Orchard Cross ’13

Orchard Cross ’13

This past weekend marked the 2013 edition of Orchard Cross, a cyclocross race through Applecrest Farm Orchards. My friend Paul and I loaded up his Saab at dawn and hit the road for what would be my first race, and only his second. We should really buy a bike rack at some point. After a tired drive filled with dad rock (really the only thing that can keep me awake at 5am), we pulled up, changed, and I got ready to put my Handsome Devil through its paces. Turns out while I was using mine as a...

Ilumenox Nano Brake Light

Ilumenox Nano Brake Light

Sometimes is the simple things that can make a huge impact. We just had our minds blown by the Ilumenox Nano, a $12 light designed to alert other cyclists when you're applying your brakes. The Nano mounts directly to your brake line and uses a spring clip that turns on the light as the brake lever is pulled.  It's quick and easy to attach to most cable-actuated rim brake. We set one up with a road caliper, cantilever, and V-brake with good results. They're now in stock. Get one before your...

Handsome Cycles Devil Complete

Handsome Cycles Devil Complete

Last week we profiled the 2013 Handsome Cycles She Devil complete. Since then we built up a Devil complete and took some great photos to share: Like the She Devil, the Devil complete is a commuter, day tripper, or light touring bike for those who don't need a heavy bike for fully loaded touring, or a cyclocross race bike for general rides. We like the way it's set up - upright posture, comfy saddle, flat pedals, and a wheelset with Mavic Open Sport rims and Shimano Deore hubs - but with a...

2013 Cyclocross Bikes

It's light. It's fast. It's super versatile. The 2013 Diamondback Steilacoom CCX is a fantastic do-it-all machine whether you're looking to speed up your commute, conquer some rougher roads or trails on the weekend, or enter your first 'cross race.  This light and stiff aluminum frame comes with a BB30 bottom bracket to increase stiffness and power transfer but also has super thin seat stays to make for a compliant and comfortable ride. It's paired with a carbon fork with a tapered steer for...

2013 Raleigh Roper, Tripper, and Furley

2013 Raleigh Roper, Tripper, and Furley

We love 'cross bikes here at CB and we're excited to say that Raleigh has us swooning for their 2013 steel cyclocross line. Their Roper, Furley, and Tripper models are all based on the same frameset. Above is their Roper: outfitted with BB5 road disc brakes, 105 components (shifters, derailleurs, chain, and cassette), and a PF30 crankset, this is one awesome entry level race bike, all weather commuter, or light touring bike for just $1500. Love singlespeed riding? The Furley is a single speed...

Back in Stock: Bianchi Volpe and KHS Urban Soul

Back in Stock: Bianchi Volpe and KHS Urban Soul

It's been quite a busy summer this year. As a result, we've had a few staple models of ours that have been out-of-stock for a short bit. We're excited to announce that we now have Bianchi Volpes for 2013 in stock in several sizes. This new batch retains all of the qualities of past Volpe versions: Tiagra 10-speed drivetrain, triple crankset, double butted cro-mo frameset, rack and fender eyelets galore. With a durable wheelset and SPD clipless pedals, the Volpe is still a great choice for...

2012 Bianchi Volpe

2012 Bianchi Volpe

Bianchi's Volpe model had been a mainstay with us for several years for many reasons: simply put, it's a light weight, fun to ride multipurpose steel 'cross bike. The Volpe is renown as being a fantastic, versatile bike that works as proficient jack-of-all trades: it's an awesome commuter, road bike, touring bike, and can even handle light off-roading. For 2012 Bianchi upped the ante with the volpe by improving the wheelset with more durable rims, adding sealed SPD pedals, and using the new...

Morgan’s Saila

Morgan’s Saila

Everyone loves a New Bike Day, but there is something extra special about your very first New Custom Bike Day. I recently had the joy of getting my first custom frame built by Lauren Trout at Saila. Lauren is an incredibly talented builder and I'm stoked to have this gorgeous bike. A special thanks goes out to Brad at Sugercoat/Geekhouse for the powder coating. Here is the built details for the nerdz: Fork - Easton EC90x Wheels - Mavic Aksium Tires - Continental Grand Prix 4 Seasons (28c)...

Employee Bike Profile: Stephen’s Igleheart

Stephen was one of our new summer additions to our mechanic staff here and at Superb, and he's been racing with the CB team for a little while (and recently got his UCI license for road!). To prepare for this season's cyclocross races he ordered a custom chromoly frame and fork from

Tyler Hamilton stops by Cambridge Bicycle

Tyler Hamilton stops by Cambridge Bicycle

Tyler Hamilton, Cambridge Bicycle owner Kip Chinian, and Craig Roth. (Photo by Steve Pucci) Our good friend Steve Pucci of Downeast Bicycle Specialists stopped by with old friend of his, current US National Road Race Champion, Tyler Hamilton. The two of them were out for a ride, and Steve wanted to show Tyler our shop. Of course, Kip tried to recruit Tyler to race for our cyclocross team, and as far as I can recall, Tyler didn't say no...

J. Dunn, International Man of Mystery

Our very own Jeremy Dunn just made it home from about a month of traveling through Europe. Along the way he attended some pretty amazing cyclocross races (among other things) and put out some amazing videos, my favorite of which can be seen below. The super sketchy cross hill section combined with the melodies of Ratatat are what really make this video for me. To see more about Jeremy's exploits go check out his BLOG! Keep an eye out for more news coming up as he leaves today for some epic...

Cyclocross Season Officially Underway

Cyclocross Season Officially Underway

What? Cyclocross already? It's still August!! That doesn't matter to us. Cambridge Bicycle hit the early cross scene at Sunday's Blue Moon Coffee Cross Race in Agawam, MA. Not only did we turn a few heads with those crazy kits, Pete Smith took 4th in the Elite Men's Race in his first outing with the CB Team. Rubi came in close behind him, followed by Jeremy Dunn in his first ever Elite Men's Race. Also, Congratulations to CB Track rider Nick Mashburn for his first Cyclocross race! Nice Job...
