Brandon came into the shop recently with a Kazane track frame, a mix of parts, and a mission. We helped him rebuild the bike with a mix of his old parts and new. Upgrades included a fork and cockpit (Cinelli Pepper riser bars, FSA Orbit headset, and a new stem), an awesome Cinelli Unicantor saddle, and sleek pedal assembly (All-city toe cages and leather toe straps on MKS pedals). All other parts were spit-shined to perfection before install. He worked with us to make sure his project was...
Minidrome Madness
The other day, Paul Carson, a local frame-builder and teacher, announced a minidrome was completed inside the Artisan's Asylum, a Somerville collective art space. Some of the Cambridge Bicycle crew headed up to check it out armed with a stash of beer and a vintage GT Dyno. The results were beautiful. You can see this wasn't your average Red Bull-chugging minidrome event. Bill's up there rocking our snack bike, a vintage GT Dyno. It's not even broken after this. At the start, it was supposed to...
Shop Visit: The Coffee Trike
This is San, the entrepreneur behind Boston's The Coffee Trike. You may have seen him around Boston pedaling his custom fixed-gear cargo trike and coffee shop. He happened to be less than a block away when the bond between his chainring and crank failed. He just barely managed to coast to a stop in front of the shop. We only had tools to remove and replace the crank arm, but not re-attach the chainring. Luckily a former employee and local machinist located near our shop happened to have a few...

Glow Bike Details
Due to a new cell phone commercial there's been a huge spike in interest regarding bikes that glow in the dark. We've been fielding a lot of questions regarding the bike pictured above. Our glow bike project from a few years ago has been making its rounds on the internet since the day we completed it. We do not have any stock bicycles available for sale with this kind of paint: this bike was a custom build involving parts that were custom powdercoated with a glow-in-the-dark pigment. Superb...

Winter Riding
It may be cold, snowy, and wet, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to ride a bicycle. Although it's not exactly t-shirt weather, it's definitely possible to stay warm, dry, and upright through seemingly unrideable conditions. The above photo shows a winter bike belonging to our sales employee, Ben. It has a few notable elements that make it a good winter bike. These include a fixed-gear drive train for better traction, boot-friendly BMX pedals, a cantilever front brake for extra stopping...
Happy Birthday, Samantha
Yesterday a customer Samantha came in and picked up a new bike for her birthday. She chose a 2010 Fuji Feather, and then outfitted it with SKS Race Blade fenders, a set of Planet Bike Blaze and Superflash lights, and Nitto cruiser bars! The bike already came with a front brake, but everything Samantha chose made this one of the most proper and good-looking bikes to roll out of the shop. Add a silver Crane Bell and it'd be the perfect city fixed-gear bike. Talk about a great gift!
ESPN Fixed-Gear Article
We got word today of us being quoted in an article about fixed-gear bicycles on ESPN's website [link]. The story's author, Mary Buckhelt, quoted our description of fixed-gear bikes: "The experts at Cambridge Bicycle on Massachusetts Avenue in Boston explain that because it has only one gear, fixies are technically a subset of single-speed bicycles, "but fixed-gears are better thought of as a separate category of bicycle entirely, with their own enthusiast culture." We're pretty excited about...

Our boy Javier leaped into the fixed gear galaxy with both feet by purchasing a bulit up Bianchi Concept with an aerospokes upgrade...we also switched out the fork to a full carbon with a brake mount. Jake’s Ride
This tough guy is real proud of his stead. In fact Jake has always spoke highly of the bikes he rides. He's had many to speak of, most have been high end mountain bikes he buys at posh bikeshops in the Boston area, so when i was able to hook him up with this killer RED/GOLD OM FLYER from SE bikes, i was pleased to find a bike for his discriminating tastes. When i brought it up for him from our basement i was also impressed by this special edition bike because of how light and tough it felt. I...

Igleheart Frames and Forks
For those of you who don't know, Christopher Igleheart is one of New Englands finest frame builders. He constructs his functional works of art through the use of high quality steel tubing. Chris has a long and exciting career in the bike industry going back to the early days of mountain biking and working with Fat City Cycles. I won't go through his whole life story but a lot of time has passed and I can personally vouch that this guy still knows how to rail the trails with the best of them!...
