2014 Bianchi Volpe and Lupo

2014 Bianchi Volpe and Lupo

2014 Bianchi Volpes are in! We're excited to have the Volpe in stock in basically every size, and also to announce the new Lupo. If you want to try a variety of riding, you're best off with a Volpe. We love the Volpe because it works as a fantastic commuter, light touring bike, mixed-terrain road bike, winter trainer, and could even be used for cyclocross. The Volpe is made with a steel frame (Bianchi's own chromoly tubing) and  features generous tire clearance (room for a 700 x 37 tire and...

Employee Bike Profile: Ben’s Touring Rig

Employee Bike Profile: Ben’s Touring Rig

Our staff have been setting up some great personal bikes this season. This is the first in a series of employee bike profiles for the next few weeks to show what they personally ride for transportation and enjoyment. Last week Ben took some time off to ride his bike and go camping in Vermont and New Hampshire on his custom Surly Cross Check. He's been piecing this bike together over the past few years, and has ended up with a reliable, comfortable bike for camping and touring on rural New...

Ortlieb Ultimate Handlebar Bags

Ortlieb Ultimate Handlebar Bags

Jersey pockets sometimes just aren't enough. We're stocking a couple Ortlieb waterproof handlebar bags: the Ultimate 5 classic in black, and the Ultimate 6 Plus in grey. Handlebar bags are an awesome addition to any touring setup, or a great primary bag for day trips, light touring, or any ride where you need a little extra room to stash a few necessities or luxuries. Both bags are waterproof, durable, and attach with a Kickflix quick-release mount to all handlebar sizes. Both come with a...

Ilumenox Nano Brake Light

Ilumenox Nano Brake Light

Sometimes is the simple things that can make a huge impact. We just had our minds blown by the Ilumenox Nano, a $12 light designed to alert other cyclists when you're applying your brakes. The Nano mounts directly to your brake line and uses a spring clip that turns on the light as the brake lever is pulled.  It's quick and easy to attach to most cable-actuated rim brake. We set one up with a road caliper, cantilever, and V-brake with good results. They're now in stock. Get one before your...

Handsome Cycles Devil Complete

Handsome Cycles Devil Complete

Last week we profiled the 2013 Handsome Cycles She Devil complete. Since then we built up a Devil complete and took some great photos to share: Like the She Devil, the Devil complete is a commuter, day tripper, or light touring bike for those who don't need a heavy bike for fully loaded touring, or a cyclocross race bike for general rides. We like the way it's set up - upright posture, comfy saddle, flat pedals, and a wheelset with Mavic Open Sport rims and Shimano Deore hubs - but with a...

Handsome Cycles She Devil

Handsome Cycles She Devil

It's not every day we get to introduce a new brand to the area. We're excited to be official dealers for Handsome Cycles. Now in stock are their Devil and She Devil complete builds, and we're able to special order their other models and frames.  The She Devil is our kind of bike. It's a light, and comfy commuter bike with the potential to be so much more.  We'll be posting photos of the standard Devil in an upcoming post as we sold the first one we built within hours of setting it up. Their...

New Staff Picks

New Staff Picks

We're always asking our staff what products they'd like to see in the shop. Here are some  staff-recommended products we are stocking this season. Above are Superb Track Cranks, a classic, high-polish square taper crankset that would be a perfect upgrade to add a unique detail to a single speed bike (like a KHS Flite 100 or Fuji Feather). If you've purchased a road bike from us with a carbon seatpost (like Jamis Icon Pro, or Raleigh Revenio Carbon 1.0), you're going to want a Ritchey...

Brooks Saddle Restock

Brooks Saddle Restock

Back in Stock: Bianchi Volpe and KHS Urban Soul

Back in Stock: Bianchi Volpe and KHS Urban Soul

It's been quite a busy summer this year. As a result, we've had a few staple models of ours that have been out-of-stock for a short bit. We're excited to announce that we now have Bianchi Volpes for 2013 in stock in several sizes. This new batch retains all of the qualities of past Volpe versions: Tiagra 10-speed drivetrain, triple crankset, double butted cro-mo frameset, rack and fender eyelets galore. With a durable wheelset and SPD clipless pedals, the Volpe is still a great choice for...

Ortlieb Panniers and Backpacks

Ortlieb Panniers and Backpacks

Our Ortlieb inventory has been completely refreshed - back in stock are our usual standby Bike Roller Classic, Office Bag, and Bike Packer Classic panniers as well as their Velocity Rucksack, Messenger Bag, and Messenger Pro backpacks. We also have their size small pannier bags - for either use on a front rack or as a smaller rear bag for when a larger rear bag may be too much. New-to-us are these two models: ...The City Biker... ...And The Downtown... Both of these models have Ortlieb's new...

2012 Bianchi Volpe

2012 Bianchi Volpe

Bianchi's Volpe model had been a mainstay with us for several years for many reasons: simply put, it's a light weight, fun to ride multipurpose steel 'cross bike. The Volpe is renown as being a fantastic, versatile bike that works as proficient jack-of-all trades: it's an awesome commuter, road bike, touring bike, and can even handle light off-roading. For 2012 Bianchi upped the ante with the volpe by improving the wheelset with more durable rims, adding sealed SPD pedals, and using the new...

Ride Report: Ben’s Bike Tour

Ride Report: Ben’s Bike Tour

Hey all, Ben here. Late last month I went on my first tour with back-to-back multiple days of riding, self-supported, with a friend. We took the commuter rail out to Newburyport, and then rode through NH, Maine, to northwestern Vermont. I was either riding my bike, recovering, eating, or sleeping, so I didn't take too many photos; but here are a few reflections from the ride: While the seacoast of New England is pretty flat, the rest of it isn't. The trip had something around 6-7,000 feet of...

Tour Story from Dylan

This past summer Dylan brought in an old USA made Schwinn touring bike. He needed some work done for his first tour - a solo trip out from Boston to Ann Arbor. We tuned up the bike and built him a custom wheelset, re-building his vintage hubs to Mavic A719 rims. When he got settled in he sent us this e-mail with some photos from the tour. "Tour is complete, showed up yesterday afternoon. Just wanted to say thanks for all your help, Charlie: those wheels rocked the house, or the northeast...

New Ortleib Arrivials

New Ortleib Arrivials

A fresh order from Ortlieb just landed in our shop this afternoon. We are currently re-stocked with bike-packer, roll-top, shopping, and office bag panniers; as well as backpack messengerbags. For those of you who feel aluminum alloy racks aren't cutting it, behold the Tubus Cargo rear rack: Tubus racks are made out of chromoly which has a number of benefits for touring and commuting. Chromoly steel is re-weldable, whereas aluminum racks are not. This means that if your rack breaks while on an...

Jamis Aurora 2010

Jamis Aurora 2010

At our shop we always try to carry a few bikes that are worth of long-distance touring cycles. We just received the Jamis Aurora for 2010 yesterday, and it's an extremely proper touring bike. What sets apart a touring bike from a standard road bike is all in the details: the Aurora is designed to be very reliable and comfortable to ride, especially when loaded up with front and rear panniers. Aside from the relaxed geometry, Reynolds 520 chromoly frame and fork, double-eyeleted rims, and...

Sightings from a recent trip

Sightings from a recent trip

Last weekend I went for a (very short) trip on tour. First time riding ever with pannier bags. It was a 60 mile solo trip with a set of loaded rear panniers from Newburyport to the lakes area of NH to visit family. I was a little weary of stopping to shoot often due to headwinds, but here are some of the few images I shot (click for larger image): Newburyport isn't a bad place at all to launch from on bikes. There is another train that actually runs through NH to Maine from Boston, but their...

Long Weekend Ride

Long Weekend Ride

This weekend was the first time that almost the entire CB category 3 squad was able to ride together. We had a nice long ride out to Harvard, up the notorious Oak Hill Road winter climb and to the fussy little Harvard General Store, to Weston and home. The route was incredible, good roads, little traffic, pleasant weather and great company. We had one flat and one bonk, luckily within five minutes of each other.

Tour of California

Tour of California

As the tour of California is currently in progress, Rapha Continental is sharing their account of the tour from a riders perspective through videos, photography and personal reports. Check out the Rapha Continental website for more info before each new stage of the race. Keep an eye out for our man Jeremy Dunn, and also check out his Blog for more info from him.

Rapha Continental 800 mile Epic ride!

Rapha Continental 800 mile Epic ride!

Our own Jeremy Dunn has joined Ryan Thomson, Ben Leiberson, Dan Langlois, Hahn Rossman and Cole Maness on Rapha Continental's epic journey across California. The plan: ride the entire route of the Tour of California in eight days. By now, the riders are deep into their journey, and by the looks of Jeremy's blog, I would guess it's taking its toll. Michael from VeloDramatic followed along with the riders during stage two to capture some photographs and support the team on their journey. Check...
