Employee Bike Profile: Dan’s Miayata

Jul 27, 2010

Employee Bike Profile_DanJust like pictures, bicycles are worth a thousand words. Dan’s Miyata, however; is worthy of it’s own Homeric epic. He dumpstered this frame, which was once a 1980’s chromoly road bike with Shimano 600 parts, and quickly stripped it. It’s been built and re-built several times; changed ownership at least three times; and was once literally dragged behind a car to New Jersey by a previous owner. This bike has been a fixed gear, single-ring road bike, and currently is a dedicated single speed. Aside from it’s pallet of stickers, rust, and chipped paint, there are other elements to this rig that makes it the perfect commuter for Dan.

Some of the highlights are, apart from stickers and spokey dokes; a Brooks leather saddle, Odyssey BMX pedals (for grip and durability), a wheelset he built himself (Mavic Open Pros to Formula hubs) and flat-resistant tires, and the essential beat-up front basket. It’s certainly one of the more unique bikes you’ll see locked outside our shop and one of the most-loved.
