This past season was the first year Diamondback had hybrids with internally-geared hubs and now 2013 models are in. The Insight and Clarity STI-8 models mix the comfort and performance of Diamondback’s aluminum sport hybrid frame but utilizes a Shimano Nexus 8-speed hub. These are excellent for those who love multiple-speed setups for riding in-city as well as for occasional longer rides, but need a low-maintenance drivetrain with less expensive upkeep than a typical chain-and-cassette setup. Internally-geared hubs are fully compatible with stainless steel chains, which are great for bikes that see a lot of weather.
The Clarity STI-8 is marketed as the ladies’ version of the STI-8. We fit plenty of women on the Insight frame without a problem, but the Clarity comes in a size 13″ (rather than a 15″ at the Insight’s smallest size) which works well for a lot of smaller-proportioned people. Between both models we have a full size run in stock (13″ up to 23″) which means now is a great time to test ride. One of these might just be your next all-weather commuter.
