This past summer Dylan brought in an old USA made Schwinn touring bike. He needed some work done for his first tour – a solo trip out from Boston to Ann Arbor. We tuned up the bike and built him a custom wheelset, re-building his vintage hubs to Mavic A719 rims. When he got settled in he sent us this e-mail with some photos from the tour.
“Tour is complete, showed up yesterday afternoon. Just wanted to say thanks for all your help, Charlie: those wheels rocked the house, or the northeast country side rather. I’d say the wind in the Ohio plains was more of a challenge than the rain in the Pennsylvania hills. It was all in all a great trip with no major, or minor for that matter, glitches. No busted spokes, flat tires, did dump one of my rear panniers riding the sidewalks in Toledo, those things sucked (the sidewalks not the panniers). Thanks to Pete for the front rack along with the bungee, held up awesome, and to Ryan for the extra storage in the handlebar bag. Here are a couple pics from the trip for your viewing pleasure!”
It’s hard not to be jealous to hear of long tours and see such great photos of beautiful scenery. Dylan’s got us all overcome with tour envy. There’s still plenty of warm weather left and fall foliage to be seen. If you’re able to get out for a ride, drop us a line about it.
