This afternoon we received boxes from Gore and Gita and upped our supply of winter gear. We got in gloves, face masks, skull caps, and balaclavas from Gore Bike Wear (including our shop-favorite lobster claw glove variant). On our apparel wall you’ll also find new waterproof overshoes, thermal overshoes, wool socks, and synthetic socks from Giordana. Long-sleeve jerseys, arm and leg warmers are also in stock.
Our tire supply has been augmented by Continental NEU Contacts and Schwalbe Marathon kevlar-reinforced tires, in 700c sizes. You don’t need studded tires to ride through the winter here in Boston/Cambridge, but riding with a larger size tire is a really great idea. Fat tires have larger contact patch areas, offering more traction and stability. They also run at lower PSI ranges, which help take more hurt out of riding on harsher road surfaces. Stop by the shop with your bike and we’ll help you find a great tire for winter riding.
